Ausonio family history
1st generation Italian immigrants Battista and Redenta Ausonio moved to Santa Cruz California in the early 1900’s, soon after moving to Castroville to make it their home. The Ausonio family worked in the agricultural industry here in Castroville, working for Associated Produce until retirement. Although Redenta was allergic to artichokes she still worked the sheds packing produce.

First property rental
In the mid 1940’s Battista and Redenta bought an old army barrack from the Salinas airport and had it moved to Koester Street here in Castroville. With the help of their son Andy Ausonio, minimal tools and little know how they converted the army barrack into a duplex to rent. This property is still owned and managed by the Ausonio’s.

The inspiration
Andy was inspired by converting a barrack into a duplex and started buying more properties and built more rental units around town. In the 1950’s Andy met his wife Nancy and they were married in 1959. Andy decided to get his contractors license and focus on construction while Nancy took care of the rental properties.

With over 60 years of business in the tri-county area, Ausonio Affiliates is currently owned and managed by the 3rd generation of Ausonio’s.
